About PowderCow

I built this for me and my friends.

With jobs and children we no longer have the time to check every resort by hand. Maybe once in a season we even have the time to go. But whatever. We like to dream. Anyhow: people seemed to like it. Try it.

What it does

PowderCow reads live mountain weather for 337 ski resorts across both hemispheres and ranks them by how good the skiing is about to be. Every resort gets a Powder-o-Meter score from 0 to 11. Best first.

You can also give it a phone number and a threshold. When a mountain clears your bar, you get a text — at most two a week.

How it makes money

Book your flights wherever you want. If you use the links on the site (Skyscanner for flights, Booking for beds) a small affiliate commission may come back, which keeps the thing running. No ads, no tracking, nothing else.

Where the data comes from

Weather — Open-Meteo, read at each resort's mid-mountain elevation.
Flight prices — Travelpayouts.
Text messages — 46elks.

The scoring formula is published in full on the method page, including the parts we think are weakest.
